Water is one of the most biggest resorts of the planet. The oceans cover up a large surface of the world with 97% of seawater and 3% of river water with is not sally. This resort is essential of life and is the cause of the relief for millions of year.
Unfortunately, water becomes rare and it is constantly polluted.
| India is a country where water is abundant but indequately distributed. The geographic location of the country enables its northern rivers to be fed by the snows of the Himalaya when than comes. The eastern and southern regions of the country benefit from the summer monsoon. The reserves of grand water are large. So, in these conditions, why is drinking water threatened and what measures are being taken to improve the situation! | |
| Map of rivers in India |
We will talk about different types of pollutions of their locations with examples of India, then we approach the consequences of the environment and of the humanity. To finish, we will see how people face the problem of the pollution.
First of all, we have to know that 90% of the rivers are in danger and that 70% of the fresh water is used for irrigation.
I. The causes of the pollution of fresh water
- The pollution of pesticides used in farming. This pollution concerns expanse of water.
- The pollution of industry. Rejections affect water.
- The pollution a cause of domestic waters who are not threated and who are finally thrown back in the sea or in fresh water.
-The chemical pollution witch can be found in water. For example the chemical pollution: The PCB or pyralène. This polluting product takes very long time for it naturally decomposition and it's not soluble in water, finally we can find it in sediments.
In rural areas
For example, only 15 % of the population have toilets.
-The natural pollution
Besides, natural pollution in groundwater, linked to the presence in the rocks of toxic mineral elements like arsenic causes problems too.
II- Some examples in India
The Gange is a river placed in India who flows in the Golf du Bengal. The river is used in paddy fields and about 400 millions of people live there and are dependend of the Gange. At the moment he suffers because of big damage. In fact, the factories and municipalities throw a big part of their used water in this river witch is also affected by the arsenical pollution.
The Lac Dal in Srinagar placed in the North of India suffers also of the pollution because of the scraps of people. At the sides of this lake, the construction of touristic hotels is very increased and a part of used water has been thrown in this lake. Because of the pollution algae are developed and they threaten wild animals and water animals. The intensive farming threats also the lake.
III- Consequences
All the phenomenons have dramatic consequences on the environment but also on the humanity. The consumption of polluted water leads to health problems, for example les coliformes fécaux, a type of bacterium who are the main responsible for illness gastrointestinal.
The biodiversity maybe threaten.
The food chain is broken off.
The landscape might be transformed.
